TEXT - Matthew 22:9-14.
"Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage. So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests. And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment: and he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless. Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. For many are called, but few are chosen.”
We see a great warning in this parable, we see a great warning that it is not the outward appearance in our lives that matters, it is that which God sees and looks upon, and that is the inward workings, that is this garment which clothes our soul. We see from the parable that the servants were sent out and all were brought in, both good and bad, so we see that this way is for each and every person in the world, those who have already heard of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ and lived by His ways, and those who have rebelled against this, they too were invited in, it is an invitation to each and everyone. And we can assume from that parable, that those who had not accepted this way, then saw the error of their ways, and they repented, and they received through this wonderful love of the Holy Spirit, this forgiveness, and they washed their robes in the blood of the Lamb, for each and everyone, save one man, was robed correctly in the eyes of the king. And this one man, when the king came to him and said, "Friend, thou hast not on the wedding raiment? He was speechless". We see therein that the king or God called him, "Friend", and God is a friend of all, God sends His blessings to each and everyone in the world, there is no discrimination, it rains on the just, and on the unjust. God is friend of all and wants everyone to come to him through His Son, our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. And He referred to him as friend, but He said to him that he did not have on the correct raiment, and yet that man was dressed no differently than anyone else at that festive board, and he was speechless. He was speechless because he could not understand how the king could see within his heart and see within there that he had not robed his soul with this raiment. He was one that had kept the raiment given to him and was trying to patch it by his own efforts, he was one who did not see the need or the necessity to come before the Almighty God, through this wonderful High Priest, and to receive that forgiveness, and to receive the access to the blood of the Lamb, so that the robe could be washed and made new, he was one who could not see and did not think that this was necessary, but when it came to the test, God saw inwardly, and in front of each and everyone, He said that he was not robed correctly. We have to be very careful that the day does not come, that we also stand speechless, because the Almighty power of God sees within, sees within each and everyone of us and it must be our obligation to ensure that we keep our robe washed and new and bright at all times, so that when the call goes forth, we can answer that call, knowing full well that the Honour and Glory that we have given unto our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, has now been rewarded. If we read in Revelations 7:14, "These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb", and further verse 16-17, "They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more: neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat. For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes".
What greater blessing? What greater love? What greater reward to look forward to, than to live in eternity with Christ who has made it possible for us to be able to put on this new garment and clothe our souls in a way that we can face and stand before the Glory of God.
It is up to us not to be caught as speechless as in the parable.

TEXT - Matthew 14:23-31.
"And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone. But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary. And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea. And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear. But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid. And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. And he said. Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, 0 thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?"
Our textword is a marvelous illustration of faith and doubt. We could also say confidence and lack of confidence. Positive and negative. It is an illustration which is very well known to us all. When I looked at the Subject Index of the Word of Life Volume 1 I noticed there were sixteen contributions under the heading of Self-Examination, most of them quite critical of ourselves. Of course, it is good to criticize ourselves and we all have plenty of faults, but looking at the negative side of our natures only is not good either. There is positive as well as negative, there is good as well as bad in everybody.
There is so much bad in the best of us
And so much good in the worst of us
That it ill behoves any of us
To talk about the rest of us.
We tend to make ourselves as we believe ourselves to be. As long as Peter had no doubt that it was the Lord who bade him come to Him on the water, as long as Peter saw and believed it was Jesus walking on the water, as long as Peter did not stop to even think about whether or not he could walk on water - He
could do it! The moment Peter stopped to consider what he was actually doing, because the wind was so boisterous, it distracted his completely innocent and unquestioning faith in the Lord's word and confidence that he could do what the Lord asked him to do, in that moment when he doubted himself: he instantly began to sink. Jesus had to stretch forth His hand and help him back to the ship. The moral in this little story is that we make ourselves what we are according to our faith and belief in ourselves.
Just remember, when we had to learn a new activity like swimming, cycling, skiing, walking a tightrope etc. The more difficult the activity, the more often our teacher would have called out to us - Now just have confidence, relax and you will do it! Of course, one has to practice first, build up ones skills, but in the end it becomes a question of having confidence, trust and faith in ourselves!
There are two kinds of criticism, constructive and destructive. There must be a balance in life. If we are in a position of importance and are surrounded by people who bow and scrape to our every whim, that is bad, it would make us egocentric. If on the other hand people are always telling us how useless we are, how bad we are, worse still, if we agree and also tell ourselves how bad and useless we are, we tend to become like that!
If Jesus could say "thy faith hath made thee whole," the reverse is also true. We say love thy neighbour! We must also learn to love and respect ourselves by making ourselves lovable and respectable. Everything must be in balance. I remember a popular song from my childhood, "You gotta accentuate the positive and eliminate the negative, latch on to the alternative and don't mess with Mister Inbetween!" Let us think positively, then we shall act positively.

TEXT - Proverbs 15:1.
"A soft answer turneth away wrath: But grievous words stir up anger."
These words of God given through King Solomon over 900 years before Christ came
into the world are still as wisdom filled today as when they were first inspired. If they could only be practiced in our homes, schools, work places, where-ever disputes are being negotiated, in our parliaments, and yes, even in our churches, we can easily see how much more peaceful our lives could be. Most parents have experienced how often a few well-chosen, quiet words do more in the chastisement of a wayward child than by many harsh words spoken. Our Heavenly Father, when speaking to mankind through His Spirit over the years, has also always spoken in love, for God is love, and we have all experienced how we respond to His corrections spoken or pointed out to us with gentleness much more than if we are forceably told. When this happens our immediate response is to "get our back up". We should therefore learn by these things that happen to us and try then not to do the same things to others.
The Bible contains many examples of how our textword was proven right. We can read in Genesis 50 the story of how Joseph's brothers had really mistreated him because of envy, and even sold him as a slave, put much sadness into the hearts of his parents by telling them that he had died, and caused him so much distress that when the time came for them to have to go to him to seek food he was certainly in a position, and some would say today within his rights, to exercise his right to tell them what he thought of them - even reject them - but through the wisdom of God it is recorded he spoke in verse 21, "Now therefore fear ye not: I will nourish you, and your little ones. And he comforted them and spake
kindly unto them.” We can read of the many blessings that came to that family by those kindly words which turned away all the wrath. These blessings will also come to every family who will also follow that example.
Christ while on earth (John 8) also used this wisdom to disperse a whole crowd of angry people when they brought the woman who had been taken in adultery to him. This crowd had been stirred up by the scribes and Pharisees in an attempt to tempt Christ into rejecting the law, which stated she should be stoned, so they could then accuse him. We read how Christ simply stooped down, and with His finger wrote on the ground, and when the time was right spoke softly the words, "He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her". This soft answer was enough to disperse the whole angry crowd, as they all out of conscience drifted away one by one.
These examples of God's wisdom are given to us so that we may all learn from them.

TEXT - Matthew 10:40.
"He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me."
When reading chapter 16 of the Acts of the Apostles, I was reminded of Apostle Ernst Guettinger. When he was in the Netherlands for the first time after the war and knocked at the door of Apostle (then Elder) Kamphuis, the very first words of the latter to Apostle Guettinger were: "Have I found grace in your sight?" Lydia, the seller of purple, the first woman in Europe to be baptised as a Christian, whose heart the Lord had opened, said to Apostle Paul: "If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house."(Acts 16:15). Neither the Elder Kamphuis nor that Lydia would have spoken in this way to just anybody. The Apostolic truth "God revealed in the flesh," was alive in their hearts. Not only did God reveal Himself in the flesh, in the human body of His Son Jesus Christ, but also through the Holy Ghost in His Messengers, Apostles and Servants. This is a treasured possession of the Apostolic Church, the truth of which is confirmed by our experiences in faith and fulfilment of prayers. Such proofs of the truth of our faith are still with us.
Our faith in God's revelation has been tested by troubles, difficulties and disappointments. To the question "Has your faith in God been shaken?" We answer mostly "No, not my faith in God." This may be only partly true. Do we still believe, to the same extent as earlier, that God is going to reveal Himself through His servants?
Beloved, we put this question not to attain more glory and honour for ourselves, which God may protect us from, but in order to do "Apostolic" work and to learn from history. There have been times when Apostles found more attention and honour than our Saviour. This was not good; a reaction had to follow.
Jesus Christ is and remains the head of His Church, and as long as He has not yet returned, His words, spoken to His disciples, remain valid. It is His wish that we should announce this truth.
Regarding His return Jesus said: "Nevertheless, when the Son of man cometh, shall He find faith on the earth?" (Luke 18:8). This faith must be found in our Church. It is for us as a golden vessel was in the temple. When Nebuchadnezzar broke into the temple, he carried away with him the golden and silver vessels. There came a time when they were brought back and restored to Jerusalem. These vessels, as well as the inhabitants of the city, had to be protected, and the best way to do this was to reconstruct the walls and gates of the holy city.
In order that we may dwell in the city of God, in the sanctuary with its precious jewels, let us strengthen the walls, recognize the servants of God, nourish our trust in them and in the hearts of our brethren. God will surely make it evident that this is the path which He has prepared.

TEXT - Matthew 16:13-20.
“When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am? And they said. Some say that thou art John the Baptist; some Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets. He saith unto them. But whom say ye that I am? And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. And Jesus answered and said unto him. Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. And I say also unto thee, that thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall he bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Then charged he his disciples that they should tell no man that he was Jesus the Christ.”
We see therein that Jesus was explaining how this rock would have to go into the world into the future. He asked His disciples –“Whom do men say the Son of man is?” They gave the answer of all the people, because the people would not accept Jesus as the Christ. They knew He was a holy man. They said He was a prophet, He was Elias, He was Jeremias come back to life, or John the Baptist, but they would not confess that He was the Christ- the Messiah come to save them and take them to the promised Kingdom of God. He asked His apostles and said, “Whom say ye that I am?” The Apostle Peter who was known then as Simon, he answered on behalf of the apostles and said – “Thou art the Christ the Son of the living God.” We must always remember those words for those words are what our Lord described as the rock. 'On this rock will I build my church.’ The church must at all times confess and Believe without any question that thou art the Christ the Son of the living God. That is the chief cornerstone of the church. He said that Simon would be called Peter from that day, and he said that he was blessed for flesh and blood did not say that, for no flesh and blood can confess that Jesus is the Christ but by the Holy Spirit. He said that he was blessed with a foretaste of that Holy Spirit from His Father in Heaven to he able to make that confession, that would have to be made to set in place that chief cornerstone which would hold the church together for evermore. He said unto him that the gates of hell should not prevail against the church. We know that when our Lord went down into hell and proclaimed the proclamation of peace. He was given the keys to the gates of hell, and He introduced a new place. Hell was the place of waiting for judgment. He introduced the new place called Paradise. All of those within the Christian Church who maintain and fulfill their obligation in believing that Jesus is the Christ the Son of the living God, they when they leave this life go to Paradise to partake of the tree of life, to be ready for His return when He will come and set up His kingdom. He then said to Peter and the Apostles that He will give them the keys to the Kingdom of Heaven. That is not a key that they have in their hand. We know down through the ages many have allowed the philosophy that Peter is at the pearly gates and he is the only one who has the key to allow us to enter in or out. Our Lord was talking about a different set of keys. He was giving unto them the Word of God, His Father's word that would be as a key that would go out into the world, and for all of those who accepted this key and allowed their hearts to he opened and allowed the Holy Spirit to enter in and prepare them, they would be receiving ultimately the Kingdom of Heaven. We are the recipients of this down through the ages. The Word of God is a very important part within this living temple of God. Without the Word of God we would have no direction. Without the Word of God we would have no faith. Without the Word of God we would have no hope. Without the Word of God we would have no forgiveness. Without the Word of God we would have no Baptism. Without the Word of God we would have no Sealing. Without the Word of God we would have no Holy Communion. Without the Word of God we would not be able to be part of the living temple of God. Those keys are still being distributed throughout the world for all who will allow them to unlock their stubborn hearts and accept that Jesus is the Christ the Son of the living God. It is one thing to say that we believe in that, and it is easy for us to say those things. But we have to show by our lives that we try to live by those Words of God.

TEXT – 1 Peter 1: 15-19.
“But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy. And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man’s work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear: Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:”
The modern sayings which people use to calm and encourage each other are: “Take it easy, stay cool etc.” But when something happens which cannot be taken lightly, they feel unjustifiably that they have been deserted by God and the world. With such a basic and low attitude God was never with them in the first place and they themselves never actually tried to seek the nearness of God.
To come into the presence of God, we will have to be sanctified. Take the example of Moses, Exodus 3:5 “Put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground.” This means: Cast off the old man and put on the new because as you are now you cannot come to God – SANCTIFY YOURSELF! This invitation concerns the majority of people who think that without forgiveness of sins and turning a new leaf they can enter into the presence of God.
Sanctification, as described in the Holy Bible, is always a condition or state of deliverance, the liberation from sinful connections which separate us from God. It is the will of God to be sanctified, we must abstain from fornications. Read 1 Thessalonians 4:3 “For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication:”
The world has always said, why sanctification and segregation? What for? Why be so extreme? People are always relying on God to be forgiving and loving without any reservations.
Forgiveness is not up to us. No evil or sin can come into the presence of the great and Almighty God! Through sin we become enemies of God and subjected to His wrath. We should not be consumed by the world but by the Holy Spirit in Christ which makes us Children of God. Only through the Holy Spirit in us do we become more like Christ. Then we can change egotism into love, moodiness into friendliness, war into peace, sinfulness into purity of the heart.
Apostle Paul tell us in 1 Thess. 5:23 how to obtain this sanctification: “And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” This was made possible by Christ sanctifying Himself for us through the sacrifice of His body for all of us (Hebrew 10:10). We cannot do this, HE THE SON OF GOD MUST DO IT! He sanctifies us and makes us into Children of God, we only have to be willing. Only HE will and can do it, all the way!
Sanctification is not a kind of veneer – as used on timbers for a shiny effect. Sanctification, if we let it happen, will affect every aspect of our life, day-to-day life, business life, professional life, social life, political convictions and all encompassing our heart and mind. Sanctification also includes cleansing from sin, faults and failures, everything separating us from God.
Sanctification makes great demands: to be chosen for God, as sanctification is not our own doing. This is because we are not ourselves anymore but belong to Christ. Christ bought us through His blood, He paid for us and that makes us His own. I can live now as a Child of God.
As our Lord, He can now tell us His will and what we are to do. In our natural life we are not in a position to refuse orders from our boss because it would result in losing our job and the security of our income. Rejecting Christ has the same repercussions.
Losing the right and privilege of being a Child of God would be eternal pain.
Apostle Paul makes it quite clear in Hebrew 12:14 “Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:”

TEXT – Genesis 28: 20-22.
“And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on. So that I come again to my father’s house in peace; then shall the Lord be my God: And this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God’s house: and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee.”
We see how Jacob believed but he took the next step. He took a vow unto God that he would give back to God a tenth of his life as he sojourned through the world if God blessed him and gave him all of these blessings, he would readily give that back. At the time he did not fully understand his vow, the same as none of us do when we make a commitment. If we read the story of Jacob we will find God indeed blessed him, but he also had his times when he had to face the problems of this world, and no doubt he forgot that vow and to fulfill it before God. God knew his sincerity and He fulfilled it for him- despite Himself. The greatest fulfillment we can read in the Scripture was when his son Joseph who represented a tenth of his sons was taken away from him, and Jacob thought that he had lost him. He thought that he had been murdered. He thought that he had lost him forever, but he did not realize that he was offering him to God to fulfill a mission. Joseph was allowed to go to the land of Egypt and he became very high in the house of Pharaoh. Through that blessing when a great drought came into all of the land in Egypt and through Canaan, Joseph through the guidance of the Holy Spirit was able to make preparation for those 7 lean years. He was able to provide a blessing unto the house of Jacob and all of his family during that troublesome time. The Scripture says that because of Joseph being in the land of the Pharaoh, it was only Jacob and his family that prospered. All the other Egyptians and all the other land owners through Canaan were forced to sell their land or give up their land unto the Pharaoh in return for food. Jacob and his families were given a fertile piece of land and they were not required to give this up, and they prospered, that is how the numbers of them prospered. We see that Jacob made that commitment and he recognized this on his death bed, and he proclaimed for all to hear that the Lord God had indeed blessed him for the whole of his life, and he then put into place a further blessing which he knew God required of him. He took unto him the two sons of Joseph and he adopted them as his own sons, saying that through Joseph had come this great blessing for his people. He took Ephraim and Manasseh as little boys, and he placed his hands on them. Although the one on whom he placed his right hand should have been the one who had the inheritance of this blessing, it should have been the first born, but he chose to put his hand on Ephraim. Joseph thought that because of his age he had misunderstood the two boys, but Jacob said to Joseph - Nay, God requires from me to give back to Him His blessings that He has given unto me. He blessed Ephraim and through the tribe of Ephraim came Joshua. Joshua was then able to lead the children of Israel into the promised land. We see very clearly that when we make a vow to God we have to fulfill it, and if we do, through the fulfillment of that vow will come many further blessings for the church into the future, it is easy for us to say - We will teach our children that Jesus is the Christ the Son of the living God, that He is our rock. We must go further than that. We must teach and we must live our lives according to the words of this rock. We see in the world today, and our Lord enumerated it and made it very clear for us in His teachings. Where there are rocks in an ocean, and as the ocean beats against those rocks it wears them away and they become smaller and smaller, and those particles that are worn away become sand. Every grain of sand is a part of a rock. Our Lord said we have to be careful how we build our house. We can build it deep onto the rock of foundation which means that we will live our lives and fulfill His words, and live our lives according to His teaching, or we can build our house on the sand which is a broken down version of the rock. It is still rock but there is not stability. In the world today we see the teachings of Christ being watered down every day of the week. We see that the worship to God is being watered down. We see that the sand is spreading all over the world and people are building their faith now on part of Christ's teaching, but not the complete teaching. According to Christ, that will fall at the time of a first storm. It is only those who make the rock their fortress that will stand through the rough and tumble of the times of this world. We can see very clearly we also have an obligation to be thankful for the blessings that we have received through this rock, to be thankful for the blessings we have received through the church. The living temple of God, but also we have an obligation to give part of our life back to the church and back to the future church, so that the building of this great temple that Jacob saw in this vision can indeed become Bethel, the House of God. This house of God when complete will be transported by the Lord to the coming Kingdom of God.

TEXT –Luke 11:28
“But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.”
In John 1:3. It is beautifully explained how all things are created by the word of God. “All things were made by Him” That means that the word of God first became visible in the natural world of creation. And indeed, we can all admire the beauty of God’s creation of flora, fauna and humans. No man can boast to have created the simplest plant or protozoan or to have ‘developed’ the sun, the air, the oceans of our planet. Everything is created through the word of God and given to mankind as the crown of this creation to exist and enjoy.
Therefore all things are a gift of God and we should have dominion over God’s creation (Genesis 1: 21-30). This surely did not mean to overexploit, wipe out or destroy God’s creation. That is why it is not enough to see and hopefully admire the word of God ‘only’ in the wonderful, perfect, natural creation but we must heed the command of Jesus to HEAR these words and KEEP them. Only then will it be possible for us to enjoy our lives in the sense in which the Creator had intended and to live a happy and full life, and yes, indeed to be blessed. What is the reason then for the living? Live to work or work to live and become rich? Start a family and thus procreate and through this gain ‘immortality’? Live to die? The reason for living can only be understood through the word of God. So it is important to find out if that is all there is, our bodily death, as explained in Psalm 90:10. “The days of our years are three-score years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off and we fly away.”
Was our life only trouble and work, sorrow and strife and after 70 or 80 years everything is over? Would this not be meaningless? In one of our hymns, ‘Word Of Life’ we sing: “Without thee what is earth? A place of hell? Without thee what is heaven? A locked – up paradise. Without thee what is life? A perpetual, dark death. Without thee what is dying? Darkness without sunrise.”
Without hearing and heeding the word of God, we cannot find the right meaning of life! We find escape in amusements such as alcohol, drugs or work, a busy lifestyle assuming we have a happy and fulfilled life!
Without thee what is life?
Life without hope equals resignation which equals dying even though we are still living.
What is dying?
The end without hope of resurrection and eternal life! That would be senseless and must lead to despair and result in an egotistical, uninhibited, irresponsible and inconsiderate way of life.
This goes so far that many young people are suicidal because they have lost the ultimate meaning of life, such as: “I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?” John 11:25-26.
We are lost if we hear these words and do not believe them, keep them and live accordingly.
So what are we to do?
Take the time and spend part of our life to attend Sunday services to hear the word of God and the gospel of salvation, to read the Holy Writ and spiritual literature, profess to be a Christian, participate in religious discussions, attend youth and senior meetings, choirs, family gatherings, visit the elderly and sick, share joy and pain, to forgive, to believe, to hope and love each other. That means to hear the word of God, keep it and act accordingly. This leads already here and now to happiness and a feeling of being alive and blessed.
If you think you can create your own salvation, you are wrong.
This word of God, the Holy Writ always needs interpretation, not our own rationale (understanding), nor the scientific research of theology is able to explain it. We need the light of the Holy Ghost.
“Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.” John 16:13.
If we can see the wonderful works of God in the natural creation, we should also heed the words in the choir song: “BLESSED ARE THOSE WHO HEAR THE WORD OF GOD, KEEP IT AND ACT ACCORDINGLY.”
