TEXT - Proverbs 15:27.
"He that is greedy of gain troubleth his own house; but he that hateth gifts shall live.”
This proverb is so important in our daily life as its teaching can effect our very family life. Family life was instituted by God, as a blessing and in that institution, we have to get the right balance of providing for our family, by the sweat of our brow, by dedicating sufficient time to each one in the family so as to create a life-time bond, by providing enough time to instruction for the children on how to get by in this life and most importantly, to provide teaching by word and example that will build up faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, whereby we have access to the God head for our blessings, now and into eternity. If this is achieved, we are peaceful and content. The Apostle Paul in Hebrews 13:5-6 writes "Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. So that we may bodly say, the Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me." When we forget this and shift our emphasis on trying to gain more of the riches of this world than we really need, that time and effort has to be taken from somewhere else, and it is very easy to neglect our household and we have all seen what trouble can come to a household in a neglected family situation. Recently as we travelled to a western community, an example of our text was clearly shown by birds of our Lord's creation. We had parked off the road under shady trees for a rest. Others had done the same previously and the ground bore witness to those things that had been spread around. As Heather took a nap, I walked around and picked up paper etc. and placed them in a drum provided. Under one sheet of paper was some old sandwiches long dried out. As I sat in the shade I noticed two crows appear and eye off the bread. One was large but very scruffly looking and the other was smaller but looked shiney and content. The large one flew down and picked up the largest piece of bread, but not content with that, set about to try and get a second piece. Each time it opened its beak to get the second piece, the large piece would fall out and it would start the process again. Meanwhile the smaller crow was content to select small pieces and if they were too large, would actually break them in two and only take a small piece, fly away with it, obviously to feed the family and return for another small piece. Six trips were completed while we were there and still the first crow persisted with it's folly to gain more than it could handle. It was obvious that the first bird was troubling his own house by greed, while the second was creating life by his more contented attitude. God provides these examples so that we can learn. We can see to-day, the second part of the proverb coming to pass through the social security system. This system is very necessary to provide a buffer zone for the weaker in the community, as they become unemployed through no fault of their own. Those that are left in a situation where help is needed, it is good to provide. Unfortunately we see more and more using the system for other than what it was intended. We see examples of people only doing a certain amount of work each week so as to not to loose those benefits or gifts as described in our text. In a discussion recently with a man who had fell into that trap in his life, he said that he had nothing to look forward to, he felt empty and discontent even to the extent that he felt he should be given more. When he realised it was wrong and took full time employment, even though he took home less money, he then came alive, his family seemed to become closer to him, he could give thanksgiving to the Lord for his blessings granted and fulfil those family obligations in a more contented way, as was instructed from the beginning. The words in the letter to Timothy are worth meditating on. 1 Tim. 6:6. "But godliness with contentment is great gain".

TEXT - Micah 6:8
"He has showed thee 0 man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?"
So it is recorded in the book of the Prophet. That is clear and beneficial advice for our life. These apply to all people and not only for the believers. How much misery, helplessness and disorientation would not instantly stop if people would only accept these simple rules. Envy, hate, violence, war and destruction, were the life's pattern in the past when people flouted these rules. It is of course obvious that one writes and thinks about these rules in a conjunctive way, in a way of possibilities, then it all is not more than an utopia for believers. There is no doubt that many responsible politicians and leaders of the people, have thought about these (rules) and are looking for a peaceful solution in the world. However, we turn around indignantly, when we establish how useless the rules and regulations are when not being followed. They are, as said, not worth the paper they are written on. Rules and regulations are only workable if a man accepts them inwardly. From the apparent utopia, quite rapidly a reality can develop when men honestly and openly intend to submit to God's demands. Regulations and demands are not there for their own sake, but are God-given in order that our lives are run well; the rules are a necessity. And here for many people, the difficulties start. "Nobody is going to tell me anything, let alone order me things." Often this is the first reaction of God's demands. God's word, His Commandments, the Gospels of Jesus Christ are looked at as something completely unbinding. But don't be mistaken! When we ignore God's demands, it must have serious consequences. God's laws and rules cannot be abandoned arbitrary. Who abides by His rules will certainly reap the blessings. Already the Ten Commandments, given by God to Moses, formed the rulings for the people of Israel's life and became the legal ground work for the western world. The Gospel of Jesus Christ gave more depth to these laws, and summarises them in the ground rules "Above all love the Lord and your neighbour as yourselves." Jesus made it clear that only His law of love can mean fulfilment. Therefore to keep His law cannot be difficult for those who love the Lord. Jesus says "If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love, even as I have kept my Father's Commandments and abide in His love." (John 15:10) The Apostle John says: "For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and His commandments are not grievous." (1 John 5:3) The demands that God sets for us result in peace, joy, mercy - yes they influence our lives. Who would not be happy to follow these demands? And what about, in the mean time, the demands of people? Here also, often necessities are demanded, although many of these are the result of pure egotism. That becomes especially clear if an individual or a group has to abandon something, in order that the whole community does not suffer. These demands are needed, everyone agrees, as long as it doesn't concern them. If we would require from others only what is seemingly needed, and do not come to the party ourselves; the community, the fellowship, and the willingness to help would disappear. Evil people always ask "What do I get out of it?" No marriage, no family, no society, no church community could successfully function, if the individual is not prepared to agree to the requests handed to him. Successful living together in this world can only happen when people concentrate on the demands of the Lord. Abide with His Word! Love your neighbour as yourself. Remain humble to your God. These rules for life may sound simple and logical, they in the first place, demand relinquishing selfishness; in being only concerned for yourself. These rules require insight of your own limitations, they require humility! "God resisteth the proud and giveth grace to the humble." (1 Peter 5:5) To come off this pride is the most difficult thing for people when they have to take God's laws to heart. No matter if it concerns old folk, or young ones waiting for advice, they will all find the basis for a Christian way of life as follows: "Put yourself under the demands of your God, then all will be well."

TEXT - Jonah 3:4.
"And Jonah began to enter into the city a day's journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown."
We can see how those forty days would be the most critical days of those peoples lives. They would have to make a decision that could give them hope, and we know they did. They repented of their ways, changed their lives to a new being and God in His love, spared them from the prophecied destruction. We understand that Jonah was prefiguring Christ. Christ also had a forty day time period after His resurrection, when He taught His Apostles of the mysteries of the kingdom of God. When He taught
how we could become a new being through Him, to again be reconciled to God. We see therein the mysteries of the kingdom of God. They were taught to His Apostles and they were then empowered to go into the whole world and teach the people that there was now a new way where man could reconcile himself to God, and that way had its beginning in what the people of Nineveh did, where they shed themselves of their earthly wares and they sat in sackcloth and ashes and repented. Now, that is an
outward repentance, but God taught His disciples that He requires a inward repentance. The sacrifice that He requires is a broken heart and a repenting spirit, and for all who will break their heart and come to repentance, then there is a High Priest who is there forever, a High Priest that can be touched, and that High Priest is our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ who will intercede to His Father, and through the Power of the Holy Ghost forgiveness will be granted and reconciliation made with mankind unto God. So those forty days were also critical for the future of mankind. We should dwell on this as we ponder on our role today within the plan of God. Those forty days, the teachings that Christ gave to His disciples, the teachings that the Apostles are empowered to take into the whole world; do we regard them as critical within our lives? The Apostles of those times learnt a lesson about those teachings and what their future role was. We can read of one event that is recorded in those forty days was as the Apostle Peter said to his fellow Apostles, 'I go a fishing' and they all went with him. They fished all night and they were off the shore, and Christ stood on the water's edge and said to them, 'Have you caught any fish, my children?' They did not recognise that it was Jesus Christ, and they said, 'No'. He said, 'Cast your nets to the right of the ship', and they did this and the nets were filled. It was then that the Apostle John recognised the words, 'My children', and he announced to the others that it is the Lord. And the Apostle Peter who was naked, put his coat on and jumped into the sea, signifying humility, for he then recognised that they had tried to do those things that Christ had told them that He required of them. He said that thou shalt be fishers of men, and they tried by their own wisdom to become fishers of the sea. They realised that without taking advice from their head, our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they would achieve nothing. He told them to come ashore, and when they came ashore, He had a fire going and He had fish on the fire already and bread. He did not need them to feed Him. If we think we can feed God with our deeds, with our sacrifices, with our offerings, then we should think again. It is God that feeds us. Everything in our lives comes from God. All our spiritual teachings come from our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, for He is the head of His Church, for He asked them to come and eat with him. What a wonderful invitation! That invitation is issued to us each and every Sunday - Come and eat with the Lord, partake of His blessings, partake of His food, partake of His spirit. He asked them to bring forth the catch. They were surprised for so many large fish had been caught, not one of the fish had been damaged, and the net was intact. They saw therein that the day would come when the Lord would say to His Anointeds, 'Bring forth thy catch' . There is room for all. No one will be hurt. No one will be damaged. We must be obedient to the Commandment of God, and we must understand that if we are obedient then blessings will follow as was shown with Jonah. It is a wonderful blessing to see Christ in every part of the Scriptures for it makes us more confident in our faith, that our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ is our Saviour, is our Redeemer, and He will invite us to come and dine with him at the appropriate time. That fear of death that mankind has held from the beginning of time, holds no fear for those who can reconcile themselves to the Almighty God.

TEXT - Mark 7:31-37.
"And again, departing from the coasts of Tyre and Sidon, he came unto the sea of Galilee, through the midst of the coasts of Decapolis. And they bring unto him one that was deaf, and had an impediment in his speech; and they beseech him to put his hand upon him. And he took him aside from the multitude, and put his fingers into his ears, and he spit, and touched his tongue; And looking up to heaven, he sighed, and saith unto him, Ephphatha, that is, Be opened. And straightway his ears were opened, and the string of his tongue was loosed, and he spake plain. And he charged them that they should tell no man: but the more he charged them, so much the more a great deal they published it; And were beyond measure astonished, saying, He hath done all things well: he maketh both the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak."
How difficult it must be to understand, if one can neither hear nor speak. We pay great heed to every sound uttered even by an infant and are overjoyed when it says it's first word "Mama." The deaf have great difficulties. Hearing is very important. The spoken word, the sounds of nature - the twittering or singing of the birds, the murmuring of the waters or the rustling of the leaves in the forest, the whistling or howling of the wind or the storm, the cracking of falling trees etc. Sounds can be pleasant or frightening. An alert listener hears the buzzing of insects, music, singing etc. more clearly. A doctor must listen carefully when he is examining a patient's heart and lungs. Shouts for help and warning cries are heard when danger threatens. All this, makes not the slightest impact on the deaf. I once saw a group of deaf people at a congress. Someone interpreted for them through signs. Deafness is a great handicap. A dumb person has difficulty making himself understood. He has difficulty expressing his feelings and sentiments. He cannot call to others for help, not even by means of the telephone. He cannot say a word. Being dumb is very hard. Jesus put His fingers into the ears of the deaf mute and touched his tongue saying "Be opened."
Signs from God are often necessary and a great help in our lives. When things are hidden from us, we ask God for a sign. We ask Him to enlighten our minds and our hearts, open our ears and loosen our tongues. A human being unable to hear and speak has special need of our love and help. Unhappily there are two sides to everything - the tongue can do a lot of evil. James 3.
Some people talk a lot but cannot listen to others. They talk about everything. There is no country, no city, no lane, no house, which the slandering tongue has not defiled with brawls, quarrels, insults, discord, covetousness and impurity. The tongue makes people impure and abominable and can cause every imaginable evil. Death and life are in the power of the tongue. Proverbs 18: 21.
Every kind of beast - lions, serpents and even the mighty elephant has been tamed by man, but the tongue can no man tame. Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. "Set a watch, 0 Lord, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips, so that they may not lead me to sin and my tongue may not ruin me." Psalm 141: 3 and Apocrypha Ecclesiastes 22:23.

TEXT- Zechariah 4:6-7
“Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.”
The Prophet Zechariah saw a vision. He saw a candlestick and that candlestick was made of gold, and it had a bowl on the top, and it had seven lamps. The seven lamps are the fullness of the spirit of God, and for a lamp to burn it has to have oil placed into it. And he saw two olive trees standing by this lamp, and he saw that they were putting the oil into the lamp. And the prophet was told of the power of this Holy Spirit, for he was told that this building or this new creation would not be built with might and it would not be built by force, but it would be built by God's Spirit. The Lord himself declared that. And he declared how that Spirit would work, and the power that it would have to build the church. He said that the obstacles would be like a mountain. They would not be shifted by force or power, but they would be shifted by one simple way, and that is the grace of Christ. The grace of Christ will remove any barrier in our lives and it will reconcile us with God. When we are reconciled with God, then we are ready to receive the great blessing of having the kingdom of God preached unto us. And the prophet asked the angel what these two olive trees were, and he replied in Chapter 4 versus 11-14: “Then answered I, and said unto him, What are these two olive trees upon the right side of the candlestick and upon the left side thereof? And I answered again, and said unto him, What be these two olive branches which through the two golden pipes empty the golden oil out of themselves? And he answered me and said, Knowest thou not what these be? And I said, No, my lord. Then said he. These are the two anointed ones, that stand by the Lord of the whole earth.” The answer that he received is very important for us, because the lamps in the church cannot burn unless they are fed with the oil, and the oil must be given by God's two anointed ones that stand by the Lord of the whole earth. Now those two anointed ones; one is the Book of the Old Testament and one is the Book of the New Testament. It is those words contained in the testaments that provide us, by the power of the Holy Spirit, with the word of God, the oil that makes the lights gleam and shine in the world. We can see that it is very important for us to have this light. The Apostle John was also shown these witnesses in the last days on the earth as recorded in Revelation Chapter 11. He was shown that the people took those witnesses and they put them into the streets and they destroyed them and they made merry around them, that the word of God has been put down, because it was preventing them enjoying life the way they wanted to. They even gave gifts to each other to celebrate the putting down of the word of God. But God has shown us that he is already writing another bible. This bible is not being written with ink and paper. This bible is being written by the Holy Spirit, and it is being written on the hearts of each and every one of us each Sunday that we come to church and we hear the kingdom of God preached. The Holy Spirit writes that on our heart. That is why it is important that we come to church, because if we miss, that page of the new bible could be missing. Sometimes we come to church and we sit and we think the bishop is preaching too long, and we say we cannot remember all of it, but we must remember that the Lord is still writing those words on our heart. The Apostle John was shown that after a period of time of destroying the bible, it came alive and it stood up in the streets. That was not the written bible. That is the living bible of each and every one of us. We will each have part of God's word within us and we will be able to share it with one another, and this living bible will be recognised by the works that we all do. We will be asked, why do you love your brother, and the page of the bible will be able to tell us. We will be able to say that Jesus taught us. So we must avail ourselves of allowing those pages to be written, so that we will not lose the knowledge or the mystery of the kingdom of God, which will come when our Lord returns and he will commence the thousand years of peace on the earth where there will be no death, no sickness, no sadness, no wars, no fighting, but only the love of God every moment of the day. Let us play our part in being sure that our pages are being written to help others.

TEXT – Hebrews 12:11
“Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.”
Time and time again we come to a cross road in our life. This raises the question: Where are we? Why are we here? And where do we want to go? It is important to define our position if we do not want to wander about aimlessly. Now, which is the easiest, the nicest, the shortest and the best way? Can we bring all these attributes together? Is there only this way or are there different ways to meet our purposes? The easiest way is, if we know from where to start and where to go to, so the questions are "where from" and "where to". Once we know where we are going and follow the signs it is easier to find the right way.
Trust the directions of JESUS CHRIST: "I AM THE WAY THE TRUTH AND THE LIFE NO MAN COMETH TO THE FATHER BUT BY ME" (John 14:6). The decision for Apostolic Christians is easy because the way is also our goal. One thing must be clear, there is only One Way, and it is not the broad and easy way but the confined way. Who really wants to go that way?
Now let us see what was said to the community of the Hebrews who are in danger to turn their backs on CHRIST and HIS Salvation Plan: about the Christians' way of life. By the way, they were not in any danger from the outside by persecution but it was general apathy within the community, just at it can be today in our Communities. It is amazing how up-to-date the Holy Writ is?
The author of the letter describes first how GOD'S people under the law through faith received the testimony of GOD, but could not yet receive the promise of GOD because GOD had something better in mind and the people could then not be perfected without us.
HE admonishes us through our forefathers (Hebrew 12:1): WHEREFORE SEEING WE ALSO ARE COMPASSED ABOUT WITH SO GREAT A CLOUD OF WITNESSES, LET US LAY ASIDE EVERY WEIGHT; AND THE SIN WHICH DOTH SO EASILY BESET US, AND LET US RUN WITH PATIENCE THE RACE THAT IS SET BEFORE US."
Today, as it was then, it is important to patiently fight for our way of life, looking up to JESUS, the Beginner and the Completer of our faith who for us was victorious because HE suffered on the Cross. That is why we can cast all our problems onto HIM so we can complete our way of life without getting tired or discouraged.
But we do not have to fight to draw blood in our battle against sin. The fight against evil is not a game. It is a fight about life and death. The way to heaven is not an easy stroll. The high goal, CHRIST, cannot be reached without trials and tribulations. That is why education, discipline and punishment are necessary as in Hebrew 12:6: "FOR WHOM THE LORD LOVETH, HE CHASTENETH, AND SCOURGETH EVERY SON WHOM HE RECEIVETH."
If we cannot bear this, do not obey, we are not GOD'S Children, but Outcasts!
Matthew 16:24: IF ANY MAN WILL COME AFTER ME, LET HIM DENY HIMSELF, AND TAKE UP HIS CROSS AND FOLLOW ME." That is the taking up of the cross, that we fight the good fight of our faith withstanding Satan and overcoming temptations with our own strength? No, only through the chastisement of the Father if we let this happen to us. Who wants that? We would rather have joy than the suffering under the cross. People find suffering to be something negative; even so we know GOD uses it to make us perfect, so that we might be partakers of HIS Holiness. (Hebrew 12:10).
Most interesting is the wording of our text Hebrew 12:11: "NOW NO CHASTENING FOR THE PRESENT SEEMETH TO BE JOYOUS, BUT GRIEVOUS: NEVERTHELESS AFTERWARD IT YIELDETH THE PEACABLE FRUIT OF RIGHTEOUSNESS UNTO THEM WHICH ARE EXERCISED THEREBY."
This is to remind us that the momentary chastisement and apparent suffering is not to be regarded as a result of any punishment, but we view what evolves from this: The fruit of peace and justice. Or, whoever loses his life by following CHRIST and by punishment and bearing a cross will not remain dead, but will rise to a joyful and eternal life. How wonderful that will be!
"REMEMBER YOUR TEACHERS WHO TAUGHT YOU THE WORD OF GOD; LOOK AT THEIR END AND FOLLOW THEIR FAITH. JESUS CHRIST THE SAME YESTERDAY AND TODAY AND FOREVER" (Hebrew 13:7-8).
The End is all that matters; Through all Pain to All Joy!
GOD IS OUR PEACE!

TEXT – Luke 2:13-14.
“And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.”
Our text word tells us of the great love of God in sending His Son into the world. He had it done in a way that confounded all the people and he came with a mission. The mission was given to Him by the angels on the night He was born. That mission was. Glory to God in the highest, peace on earth, good will toward all men. He now had to reconcile man and God together again because man had drifted away and God was not speaking with him anymore. God had not spoken for over three hundred years but now was to be the opportunity for our Lord to restore the link between man and God. He had to teach the people to offer all glory to God in the highest, and He had to bring peace on earth, not peace between man and man and nation and nation, but peace between God and man, and He had to come and pave the way so that God could show his good will toward all men. God is love and He wishes to show His love toward everyone. That part of our Lord's mission is not yet completed. It is still to be completed in the kingdom of God where God can give His good will to us every moment of the day. He had to overcome God's enemies. He had to overcome the sin of the world. He had to overcome hell because God did not enjoy placing hell into being. God did not like to see everyone waiting for judgement so our Lord had to introduce a new place. Finally, our Lord had to overcome death because God was not pleased that He had introduced the death of this body. That was against his loving nature. To believe all this requires faith and in the world today over seventy percent of the population claim to take their faith back to Abraham. The Jewish nation accepts the promise given to Abraham from God that through his seed will every nation in the world be blessed. The Islamic and Muslim nations also believe in the faith through that promise to Abraham but through his son Ishmael. The Christian faith believe that that seed of Abraham was our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. We see that all the faiths go back to Abraham. We must ask ourselves, what is the faith of Abraham that makes Christians believe in the great promises of our Lord. Let us read the recordings of Abraham's faith in Genesis 22:3-6, And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and saddled his ass, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son, and clave the wood for the burnt offering, and rose up, and went unto the place of which God had told him. Then on the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes, and saw the place afar off. And Abraham said unto his young men, Abide ye here with the ass; and I and the lad will go yonder and worship, and come again to you. And Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering, and laid it upon Isaac his son; and he took the fire in his hand, and a knife; and they went both of them together.” When we hear that text the Christian church must ask itself, what was, the faith of Abraham that gives us our faith. It was not that he obeyed God. If God spoke to us we would surely obey him. It was not the journey he made. It was not that he was prepared to sacrifice his son. But the faith of the Christian church is in verse 5 where Abraham told the young men to wait for him and he said I and my son will go ahead to worship, and we will come again to you. He believed that even if he sacrificed his son, God would bring him out of the grave again. That is the faith of the Christian church in Abraham. We believe that through the mission of Christ, God will have the power that He has shown through His son when His son was placed in the grave and on the third day He arose. Death could not hold Him, and it is our faith and belief that if we live our lives according to our Lord's teachings that we can confidently say to those around us that we are going up yonder, and as we depart from this life we can confidently say as Abraham did, we will come again. Through the grace of Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit, when the Lord returns, the graves will open, the bodies will all be made whole, the Lord will bring with him the spirit and the souls and we will all come alive again, having been reborn to be as our Lord, spirit first and body second. We will go with the Lord into the kingdom of God. A thousand years of peace. Our Lord's mission will then be complete because God will be able to give us His good will every moment of the day for a thousand years. We must make this our faith. Through Jesus Christ only can this hope be fulfilled.

TEXT – Psalm 116:5.
“Gracious is the Lord, and righteous; yea, our God is merciful.”
A few days ago I read a report about a welfare group called "The Dinner Table" in Germany. The aim of this group is to provide a warm meal to the weakest and poorest
members of the community. This is made possible through donations from shops in their respective region which pass on any useable groceries they cannot sell themselves.
The reporter asked a young boy if he came here often and if he knew where the food came from. The answer was: "Yes, every day. My Mother does not have enough money to buy food for us all. There are four of us." Then the boy said a sentence that touched me deeply in my heart:" Hey, you, that is what the LORD does, and HE can do much more and when we are sad, HE helps us, too!"
The reporter said: "You don't really believe in GOD, do you? HE doesn't really exist!" To this the boy replied very firmly: "But then you are much poorer than we are!" How did this conversation end? -1 don't know.
Time and time again people are finding GOD, each one in his own way. For the workers at "The Dinner Table" this is not important because with the little they have at their disposal they make a lot of people happy, even if it is only for a moment.
Fact is: GOD cannot be proven, not through a microscope and not by flying into space. But - do we have to prove HIM? Does HE not prove Himself every moment and every
day new? In this, oh, so hectic world?
I believe in GOD because otherwise I would not know what to do with my gratitude:
- for the person I love
- for the sunshine
- for every little happiness
- and also some tears which are dried by GOD.
Saying thank you has gone out of fashion but it brings us closer to GOD and the
people around us.
May GOD protect you every day new!
This article was translated out of the German Herald and contains a very strong message for us all.
